Carpet tiles are squares or planks of heavy duty carpet. They usually have a bitumen or PVC backing and go down over a prepped subfloor with a release adhesive. They are the standard in commercial fit outs for good reason. They wear like iron, they hold their shape, and you can repair them forever.
One tile gets a coffee stain, a chair castor burn or a bleach mark? Lift that tile and drop in a new one. Nobody has to recarpet the room. For a business, a rental, a home office or a kids playroom, that is a big deal.
Modern tiles have moved a long way past the grey office square. Plank formats, tonal patterns and mixed lay directions produce floors that look considered rather than institutional.
Not for every room, but in the right space they are clearly the better answer.
Damage is a five minute fix. Order a few spare boxes at installation and you have a floor that can be maintained indefinitely.
Commercial grade tiles are rated for much heavier use than normal household carpet. That is why they last so well in offices and entries.
Tiles cut and lay to the room with minimal offcuts, which matters in rooms with awkward shapes, columns or built in joinery.
An office can be done floor by floor, or after hours. A home office can be laid without emptying the whole house.
The heavy backing means tiles do not stretch, ripple or need re stretching the way broadloom carpet sometimes does.
Monolithic, quarter turn, brick lay or mixed colour. The same tile can produce very different looks depending on the lay pattern.
The wrong tile in the wrong room feels cheap and wears unevenly. The right one is almost invisible and lasts a decade.
What we look at before recommending a tile.
Straightforward once the subfloor is right, and we can work around your operating hours.
1
We measure, assess traffic and subfloor, recommend a tile and lay pattern, and quote a fixed price.
2
Old covering removed, adhesive residue ground back, moisture tested and the surface smoothed so tiles sit flat and bond properly.
3
We set out from the centre lines. That way the cut tiles around the edge are even and no wall ends up with a thin sliver.
4
Tiles laid with release adhesive, edges trimmed, thresholds finished and spare stock left on site for future repairs.

Both. They are excellent in home offices, playrooms, rumpus rooms, studios and rentals, anywhere spills and heavy wear are likely. In bedrooms and formal lounges, broadloom carpet usually feels better underfoot and looks softer.
Most are laid with a pressure sensitive release adhesive that grips the tile but allows it to be lifted and replaced. Perimeter tiles and high traffic entries can be fully bonded where extra hold is needed.
Yes, that is the main advantage. Lift the damaged tile, clean the adhesive, drop in a spare. We always recommend keeping two or three spare boxes from the original batch so the replacement is a perfect colour match.
They can, if you pick a plain grey square and lay it all one way. Go for plank format tiles, tonal ranges and a quarter turn or brick lay pattern instead. You end up with a floor that looks designed, not corporate.
Commercial grade tiles in a home office or light commercial space run 10 to 15 years or more. Damaged tiles get swapped out one at a time. You never have to pull up the whole floor because one area has worn.
Yes, and concrete is the most common subfloor for them. The slab has to be clean, flat, dry and clear of old glue. We moisture test before laying, because the adhesive bond depends on it.

Tell us the space and how it gets used. We will recommend a tile and a lay pattern, then quote supply and installation as a fixed price.
